Driving Innovation Together

The transformation of mobility and energy supply requires new fuels, technologies and test methods. Many of these challenges can be addressed most effectively through collaboration.

TEC4FUELS therefore works with companies, research institutions and other technology partners in research and funded projects. We combine scientific research with application-oriented testing and technical assessment.

Research

Investigating new fuels, materials and technical interactions.

Development

Developing test methods and technical solutions for new applications.

Transfer

Transferring research findings into practical applications together with industry partners.

Methanolstandard – Standardisation of Renewable Methanol Fuels

The joint research project “Methanolstandard” investigated the technical foundations for the standardisation and future use of renewable methanol fuels in Europe.

Together with partners from industry and research, the project addressed technical, economic and environmental aspects across the fuel value chain, from the production of renewable methanol to its use in internal combustion engines.

Project Focus

  • Renewable methanol fuels
  • Fuel quality and standardisation
  • Production and technical assessment
  • Application in internal combustion engines
  • Environmental and economic assessment

The project ran from August 2020 to December 2022 under funding reference number 19I20005D. Project partners included FEV Europe, OWI Science for Fuels, RWTH Aachen University, ASG Analytik-Service, BMW, Ford, Liebherr-Components Deggendorf and TEC4FUELS.

DMEplusX – DME-Containing Renewable Fuels for the Existing Vehicle Fleet

The DMEplusX joint research project investigated how dimethyl ether can be used as a component of renewable fuel blends and even as an alternative fuel for diesel engine applications.

TEC4FUELS focused on the material compatibility of DME blends, the development of suitable test methods and the assessment of additive strategies.

Project Focus

  • DME and DME fuel blends
  • Material compatibility
  • Hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Corrosion testing
  • Additive strategies
  • Fuel systems compatible with the existing vehicle fleet

The TEC4FUELS subproject ran from 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2024 under funding reference number 19I20018C.

From Research to Industrial Application

Research projects do more than generate scientific knowledge. They provide the foundation for new test procedures, technical solutions and reliable assessment methods.

The experience gained through our research activities therefore directly contributes to the services we provide today, supporting companies in the development and assessment of future fuels and energy systems.

Fuel Assessment

Assessment of alternative and renewable fuels under application-oriented conditions.

Material Compatibility

Investigation of interactions between fuels, materials and components.

Hardware-in-the-Loop

Realistic system testing without the need for full engine operation.

Technical Consulting

Transferring research findings to specific development and application challenges.
