Engine manufacturers recommend

Approval by the engine manufacturers for the use of low-sulphur heating oil

So far, manufacturers of emergency power and emergency power supply systems have demanded diesel fuel in accordance with DIN EN 590 for the operation of their engines. This has so far posed a considerable problem for operators and service companies. On the one hand, the engine manufacturer’s warranty is tied to the use of diesel fuel according to DIN EN 590, on the other hand, the long-term storage capacity of the fuel cannot be guaranteed due to the addition of biodiesel due to the Biofuel Quota Act.

Leading manufacturers have approved or even expressly recommend the use of low-sulphur heating oil according to DIN 51603-1 for their engines on the basis of a study by the Institut für Wärme und Oeltechnik (Institute for Heat and Oil Technology) on fuel quality in emergency power systems. If the manufacturer’s requirements do not provide for the use of heating oil as a fuel in accordance with DIN 51603 Part 1, the manufacturer should obtain a corresponding release.

The recommendations of the engine manufacturers are only valid for Germany. Depending on the fuel quality in other countries, the manufacturer’s recommendations may vary. If you have any questions, please contact the engine manufacturer.
